Wieving a Tangled Web: Comment on Internet Suicide.

The lingering association attached to Social Networking websites when trying to understand what connections exist between the measure of popularity they themselves enjoy worldwide, against that of some 17 recent young suicides in the UK, I feel might have contributed to Media circles overall almost too ambiguously refering to the prevalence of “Internet Suicide Pacts” being made by community members to these services.  

The general uptake in people registering with the networks has been considerable since its latent introduction near to the end of the 1990’s.  

In fact, there just might well be good reason for  suspicions to hang around speaking of the possibility of small groups of people making plans to take their own lives. 

But with this said, it would seem to me that the rise of people collectively deciding to commit suicide without there being any apparent motive as to why, would suggest that something of a law of unintended consequences is at work here.

The ideals of the Consumer market are more than likely to be regarded as having suffered something of an assault upon its overall scope or conscience.

However seemingly corporate sites like Myspace or Bebo maybe, it is wrong of them both not to want to voluntarily accept what responsibility they have in terms of the way this “exclusive communications product” operates and how it is promoted within the realms of popular culture.

Perhaps there should be something similar to a “at risk register” open to Myspace and other Social Networking sites to have access to in order for them to know who exactly they have listed as community members predisposed to self-harming or suicide.

Rational Action Theory

In democratic countries, like that of the United States or United Kingdom, the broad appeal of both liberal and rationalist philosophies has steadily lead to the strengthening in importance of the Western Hemisphere’s overall ideological premise from the point of view of defending the ideas of John Stuart Mill, the founder of Utilitarianism.

It is easier to accept on civil grounds that after what political decisions are made to further expand upon industrial ventures, it would be safe to assume that due to the historical position of technology in shaping the identity of cities and conurbations;  many people through their successful adaption to the kinds of environmental changes that the offset by capitialism brings, excel in ways that allow for further ascensions to be achieved towards the notion of territories becoming identified as adopting nationality.

Rational Choice Theory has sprung from older and more experimental collections of hypothesis surrounding what have been essentially, the empirical findings from many scientific investigations into the workings of human nature.

The conceiving and semblance of these social models which are hugely applicable to the methodology expressed through the function of microeconomics within society are also similiarly placed to demonstrate that a sizable amount of data is collated using behavioural techniques which are tweaked and made adjustable in order to ensure compatibly with the spontaneous motivational drives displayed by the consumer.

The Regulation of Investigatory Powers.

To have very sensitive information broadcast that would only produce antagonism  within a community leaves only serious ramifications in its wake which do simply give way to perceptions of crimes gaining primacy when pitted against the actual success that use of positive law and order is able to demonstrate more generally.

Looking at the wider picture.

There recurrent suggestions put forward by some academicians that much of the world is controlled hegemonically by the USA and the EU who provide food aid to half of the world’s population. 

As the mechanistic effect of Globalisation, Immigration and individual social mobility has allowed people to improve their living standards primarily from seeing family members being accepted into universities for the first time, our subtly different continents are experiencing pressures on many strands of public services and resource.

The statistical rise of students graduating from educational institutions worldwide could only be regarded as commendable, since greater efforts are being made to ensure that many more young people and returning adult learners receive help and support in facilitating their leverage up the social scale.
